A basic introduction to epoxy adhesive

Epoxy is a two-part adhesive consisting of resin and hardener. In order to use this adhesive properly and efficiently, its ingredients have been placed in separate containers. When you plan to adhere to a piece, all you have to do is mix the two ingredients. In order to get the right mixture, the ratio of the two materials must be proportional to the type of work you want to do, as well as the type of epoxy adhesive. When the parts have not yet cured, they may move and relocate. Therefore, in order to get the best results from using these adhesives, you should give it a few hours. After this period, the adhesive will reach its optimal strength.

Step by step with how to use epoxy adhesive

In this part of the article, we have explained how to use epoxy adhesive step by step

  1. First, store the resin and hardener at room temperature (at least 10 ° C). This will make the adhesive better prepared for the bond
  2. The surfaces you intend to work with epoxy should be thoroughly cleaned and dried and free of any grease or dust. You can use different solutions such as ethanol, methanol, or acetone to clean these surfaces. In addition, before using the adhesive, you should remove the excess waste from the surfaces by using sandpaper and clean the resulting dust. You should adhere the two surfaces together in less than an hour after cleaning the surface; because after this time, you will have to do the cleaning process again.
  3. To use this adhesive, you must mix the resin in the kit with a suitable ratio of hardener. For information on these ratios, refer to the technical information section of epoxy adhesives. Under no circumstances should you mix them approximately. Having a special container next to the adhesive when buying epoxy will make the job easier for you. But if there is no container with it and you do not have enough time to buy the container, you can use a plate to mix.
  4. Stir the resin and hardener for at least 3 minutes until you have a homogenous mixture.
  5. There are two main ways to apply epoxy adhesive on the surface:

Spot installation

If you use an epoxy adhesive to install large stones such as slabs, granite, or marble, it is better to put large spots of adhesive in the corners and center of the stone. Then place it on the desired surface.

Layered installation

If you use epoxy adhesive for tiles, ceramics, metal, wood, and concrete, it is better to put a layer of adhesive on the surface and spread it with a thickness of 0.5 to 0.8 mm. Of course, this thickness varies in different levels and according to the type of epoxy.

It is best to read the epoxy adhesive instructions for more details and to get acquainted with the composition. You can use a rubber mallet to test the connection between the two surfaces. Never use a metal hammer to test

6. Finally, remove excess epoxy from the surface using a spatula.

Installing stone with epoxy adhesive

Stone is one of the most important materials in the construction industry. Stone is used for building facades, floors, interior decoration, etc. due to their heavy weight, the safety of installation has always been very important. For instance, when installing a stone in a tower or skyscraper, safety must be very high so that accidents caused by a falling stone would be avoided. Therefore, the installation method and materials used are vital.

One of the safest and most durable ways to install stone is to use epoxy adhesive. Because the adhesion strength of epoxy is very high and it has excellent resistance against bad climate conditions. Epoxy adhesive is a modern method and is a good alternative to traditional methods such as sand and cement mortar or screwing stone to the substrate. In this method, after mixing the two parts of resin and hardener, large spots of glue are placed on the corners and center of the stone, and then it is installed on the desired surface.

The other two cases in which epoxy adhesive is widely used in the construction industry are repairing broken stones and cracks in concrete, and filling gaps, voids, and sealing various surfaces. By first applying the required amount of epoxy adhesive mixture with a spatula on the surface before formation.

Following are some commonly used adhesives in the construction industry:

Megatite S

These epoxies are extremely strong and versatile, which makes them a great tool for surfaces that are constantly submerged in water.

Marine epoxy is used to protect ship hulls from corrosion and destruction in the marine environment, to increase the abrasion resistance of ship decks, and to prevent ship moss, which causes corrosion and slows down ships. This marine epoxy resin can also be used in corrosive fluid transmission lines, oil transmission lines, fire water lines, etc. To use this adhesive, you have to mix all the hardeners with all the resin. Stir for 3 minutes and place in a 0.5 to 0.8 thick layer on surfaces.

Say goodbye to epoxy adhesive stains

When buying epoxy adhesive, put in mind the fact that this material has high durability; Therefore, you should keep the surface clean when using it. Because the remaining stains are difficult to remove. But if you have spilled some epoxy on other surfaces while working with the adhesive, do not worry, just solve the problem by reading some tips on cleaning epoxy.

Removal of cured epoxy

If your epoxy has cured and hardened, you should use a relatively aggressive method. Using most solvents, thinners, and alcohols will not help soften the epoxy. To remove the cured epoxy, methods such as burning, sanding, and heating above 200 degrees should be used.

Removal of uncured epoxy

Uncured epoxies are soft; therefore, they are easier to clean than cured ones. You can use acetone or isopropyl alcohol to remove the caused stains. To do this, you have to dip a piece of cloth in them and clean the stained surface. This should continue until the adhesive comes off the surface.

Removal of epoxy from the skin

If the epoxy has been spilled on your skin, it is best to remove it as soon as possible. The best option is to use a natural substance such as vinegar. Dip a cotton ball in vinegar and rub it on the affected area. Of course, the use of soap and water will also be effective. But if this substance comes in contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water for 20 minutes. In cases where epoxy has been eaten, do not attempt to vomit. It is best to keep the patient warm and see a doctor immediately.

Solve problems with epoxy

It can be said that epoxies are the best anti-corrosion coatings. So that if you cover the surface with epoxy, it will become a waterproof, Anti-shock, and anti-corrosion surface. The anti-corrosion properties of epoxy increase the importance of its use in various industries. The chemical structure of epoxies makes this material have a very high adhesion property. This adhesion property of epoxy helps to withstand the stresses of the upper layers in this material. These features ultimately lead to no cracking or fracture of the final surface. Epoxy can be formulated in different ways and therefore has a variety of applications. By using high-quality epoxy, you can save a lot of money and increase the quality of the final product.
